Sesame Street has been on the air for more than four decades and is the most watched children's show in the world. It's come a long way since its inception in 1969, but it continues to evolve and be beloved by generations past and present.

The program is perhaps best known for its educational content, but it is the social-emotional learning it promotes that really makes it special. Through helpful and caring adults, adorable and curious Muppets, and kids like themselves, children learn about everything from inclusion and acceptance to sharing and self-control.

The seminal show is great for teaching your kid to count and recite the alphabet, but you'll be most grateful for the life lessons they learn along the way.
